12/29/2011 Morning Hunting Trip

 

 

After all the rain the other day I was hoping the turn in weather with the colder air would get the deer up and moving.  So I headed out into the woods in a section of Loch Raven that I like hunting in the morning so that is where I headed this morning in high spirits.  Well, I must say it was pretty cold this morning and after several hours of sitting in my tree and nothing but geese moving  I decided to call it a day.  Not seeing a think is always the biggest bummer when your hunting, it's not always about shooting something, but seeing deer and other animals makes the experience.  This morning had no experience other than some cold hands.  However, like anyone passionate about the sport, I will be back out in the woods this coming week, hopefully with better results!

    I made it out this evening (12/30) for a couple hours. Had a button buck come in around 3:00 and bed down about 20 yards away from me. Around 4:00, a whole herd of deer came down the hill. There was a nice palmated 6pt, a spike and 7 or 8 does. I didn't really feel like shooting a doe tonight, so I decided to take a video instead. I learned that i-phone video's are pretty horrible when you're 25ft in the air, but I figured I'd share it with you all anyway. The 6pt is the first deer.       Gino, Sounds like and looks like you had a good evening. I hope I see some action like that next week or weekend depending on when I make it out in the woods. I have been in that same boat where I did not feel like dealing with a deer but just enjoyed being in a tree and seeing deer. That is a big part of hunting for me, enjoying the outdoors themselves. This is also the reason I hope to get a good video camera before next season!
