2016 – 2017 Maryland Hunting Season...

I must say this year wasn’t the normal year for me.. Certainly wasn’t what I was hoping for and makes the wait until next hunting season even harder.  Only thing that is saving me is fishing season! This past hunting season started out with me having life events and work that prevented me from doing basically any early season hunting. I started in Late October and by then it just seemed things weren’t going to go well for.  I hunted a number of days and didn’t see anything or had things screw up my hunt. Then early November came and I took a trip to Maryland’s eastern shore and my bad luck came with me.  I was down there and out of the few days I hunt down there it was almost 80 degrees one day. and another day we got 2″ of rain.. Makes for hard hunting and on top of all that, the deer just were not really moving a lot.  They just seemed to be laying low and at that point rut had not really got going yet down there.  On my second to last night I let the only deer I got a shot at walk, which was a very small spike. Then I returned home for the central Maryland mid November rut.  I spent some time bow hunting to which I either didn’t see much or didn’t see anything close (story of this season).  Then we shifted to gun season in late November I spent a good amount of time hunting.  Couple of the days I finally saw deer, but they were on property adjoining the property I was hunting or they were just too far away, or the one morning they just seemed to see me before I saw them.  This continued all through the month of December either my bow hunts go screwed up or my gun hunts I saw nothing.  In the end I rolled right through the late gun season in early January with still nothing to show. I hadn’t had the change to draw my bow on a deer, and I hadn’t even gotten a shot during gun season.  Then we went into late bow season…… We all know late bow season is extremely hard anywhere, but even harder on public land.  I spent the better part of the last two weeks of the season wishing I could go hunting while working..  I did manage to sneak out 1 Saturday into Loch Raven which I saw nothing…  I then spent the last 2 of the season hunting our private land.  This always gives me a much better shot a seeing deer but never seems to mean I’ll get a deer.  The first night I had 6 deer come through the woods.  Well, being the end of the season I figured I just need meat in the freezer so I am shooting whatever gives me a decent shot.  I finally managed to get a shot after watching them for 30+ minutes and it was right around sunset.  I got a shot a health young buck at about 27 yards, I managed to shoot right under him…..  The deer spooked a little but they didn’t run off.  A few minutes later at almost the end of legal shooting light a good size doe came up and gave me a shot at 24 yards.  I shot and as soon as it hit her I knew the shot was high, I could just...

Happy Holidays!

2016 Deer Rut

The Maryland deer rut is quickly heating up.  The full moon is this coming Sunday and I think that should kick the rut into full gear. I have heard and seen signs certain places that rut is really heating up, and other areas I have seen bucks and does acting like it’s still mid October where they are just focused on eating.. I think it really depends on the area, food source, and what stage of rut the does are in, in that area.  As I always say, it’s November and there is never a bad day to be in the woods. I really believe like many other years, you will see the peak of the rut post full moon, so the next two weeks will likely be the hottest time to be in the woods. I hope everyone gets out in the woods and enjoys some of the best hunting one can experience in the coming weeks! Good luck, be safe, and hunt hard!...
Trail Cam Update (Finally) 10-10-2016

Trail Cam Update (Finally) 10-10-2016

We apologize for the delay in any pictures this year.  Between the hectic life, some equipment failure, and just the lack of time to get them uploaded to the site we really slacked this year on getting photo’s out to everyone.  Well I finally got a couple trail cam’s up and running and have a couple pictures to share.  A couple from early in the year and a couple from very recently.  Hope you...

Opening Weekend of the 2016 – 2017 Maryland Archery Season...

Opening Weekend has come and gone for archery season this year.  This was the first year in probably 5 years I was unable to get out and go hunting on opening day.  In fact, here we are the following Thursday and I still have yet to be in the woods to actually hunt.  I have managed to do some scouting, do some driving around, and I also noted several people that harvested bucks these past few days.  I am getting geared up to hit the woods at least once or twice in the next week or so.  Of course play the weather and work schedule. While scouting the past week or two I have noticed that acorns are falling pretty regularly, and with the lack of water the leaves on some trees are starting to turn.  We need to get some much needed rain and cooler weather before hunting will really get good. My summer off from writing has come to end and now that hunting season has started I’ll start posting more regularly including photo’s.  Haven’t had the time to post our trail cam photo’s from this summer, but will be working towards getting them uploaded soon and also starting to post new ones. Hope your first week of hunting season was good and even more so I hope you were able to harvest a deer and we look forward to seeing our readers harvests this...

Were Back! Life and Summer Update!

Well it has been an exciting but very busy year for us at Bow Hunting Maryland.  Unfortunately, I cannot say that I have a lot of hunting or fishing experiences to tell you about.  I (Andy) have been able to get out on the Chesapeake Bay only once this season which was back in June and produced only 1 bite for the whole boat and not a single fish. Granted it was an extremely rough day, but still very disappointing. I have been out on several bass fishing trips on different local lakes and had fair to decent success.  A couple of the trips the buddy that took me fishing caught some very nice bass in the 4 – 5lb range.   I am starting to gear up for the upcoming hunting season and finally got my bow out and started shooting.  I got a new feeder which I will be reviewing this fall.  And the trail cam is up and running and pictures will be coming very soon. As for a life update we have had an extremely busy spring and summer.  We have an added bundle of joy to our family as we are now parents to a precious baby girl which what has consumed most of our spring and all of summer.  As she is getting older we are getting back into the swing of normal life.  The other part of life that has added time commitment is my business has taken off and been extremely busy this past spring and into this summer which made life even more challenging.. Even with the added life challenges we both hope to continue to take part in our hobbies and share our experiences with you this fall. As always if I get any new gear I will be writing reviews and I will attempt to keep up with trail cam updates as long as I have something interesting to show you! I hope everyone had an awesome spring or summer and I hope to hear how all of our readers spent their spring and summer enjoying the outdoors! I would also love to hear how everyone is preparing for the upcoming 2016 – 2017 bow...
