I just moved here and plan on hunting the reservoir a good bit this fall. Unfortunately I am living in a townhouse and don’t really have anywhere good to dress/butcher a deer. Any recommendations?
Matt,
I can understand where you are coming from being that I once lived in a townhouse too. I personally have a butcher that I really like, however it is a pretty good hike away. It is located in Littlestown, PA and it is called: Nell Charles R Quality Meats and here is their address and phone number: 1319 Frederick Pike, Littlestown, PA 17340 • (717) 359-7591. They are very friendly. and offer a variety of different choices. The main reason I drive the distance is because they have very good jerky, sausage, and deer bologna, other than getting that stuff I try to butcher the deer myself if it is cold enough outside. Now I know you probably do not want to make that hike and since I am not sure of your particular location, the following link is to the list of butchers in the area. Deer Processing Locations. I have heard good things about C & L in Carroll County and FTS in Harford County is who I used to have my deer mounted and they do anything you could want. I know of a couple other people that use and really like FTS. I am not aware of any butchers located in Baltimore County, just locations that will take donated deer for the feed the hungry program.
Hopefully this information helps you out and welcome to the area:)
Matt,
I also live in a townhome and have the same dilemma. I take all my deer to KCC farms in Forest Hill. They have always given me great cuts of meat and their bologna is phenominal. They also participate in the hush program. Here is their website, let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello,
I am planning my first trail cam purchase. I don’t want to spend more than $150.
Do you have any suggestion or a name brand you prefer?
Clay,
We have used both Stealth Cam and Moultrie game cameras. You can read our reviews on them Stealth Cam Archers Choice and Moultrie M80. After using them both for a season I have to say I was very impressed by them both, but hands down the Moultrie produces better images and was far more reliable on getting pictures.
I would go with a Moultrie product and make sure you take suggestion about SD cards seriously. If you don’t (Like I did) it freezes the camera and you have to do this crazy hard reset. So get just a normal SD card, not any of the high speed or premium or anything like that.
We have been very happy with the M80 and are considering purchasing at least one more in the coming weeks.
Hope this info helps and feel free to ask any questions about either trail cam, happy to help!
I live in Ellicott City MD (Howard County) I want to target shoot my bow with target points only. I will not in any way fire towards any houses and have a 12 foot retaining wall to one side of target with a backstop to the other side and in the back. I don’t think there are any restrictions on target shooting. Do you know of any? Thanks for your help.
John,
Howard County has some strange rules about shooting and things like that. To my knowledge the same rules for hunting apply to shooting, 150 yards from an occupied structure that you DO NOT have permission from. I know a 150 yard circle around you can be tough, but to my knowledge that is the law in all of Maryland.
I would strongly urge you to contact your local police department, or call DNR at: toll-free in Maryland at 1-877-620-8DNR (8367) (Weekdays 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.) to get a firm and actual legal answer.
i live in jacksonville, maryland in baltimore county on 1+ acres. all my neighbors also have 1+ acres. so there is a good distance between homes, but it IS a residential neighborhood. lately a small herd of 6-8 deer has settled into a secluded spot in behind my home and daily i catch them feeding on my landscaping. last year i was bitten by a deertick and was treated for lyme disease. these deer have zero fear of people and i could shoot them with a bow very easily. and that is exactly what i want to do. im not a hunter, but i really want to get rid of those pests. they dont belong in my backyard! how can i do this legally? i really appreciate any advice. many thanks, bob
Bob,
Understandable that the deer are being pests to you and you would like them gone. However, you have to consider several sides of the legal and illegal problems that can come from what you are asking about.
Maryland law says you must have a 150 yard safety zone in all directions around you from an occupied dwelling that you do not have permission from to hunt. So this means if your neighbors houses are more than 150 yards away you are fine. Otherwise, what you are asking is illegal by Maryland law. Also, you said you are not a hunter, so please also remember shooting a deer and leaving the carcass is crime unless it is on your own property. The other side is also if you shoot the deer with a bow there is a good chance it will run, if it runs and dies on a neighbors property, not only do you have to get permission from the owner to get the deer but you also have to share that you are shooting deer and that doesn’t always go over the best in a neighborhood. Not to mention if you leave the deer and someone figures out you shot it, that can also have legal repercussions.
So, I would suggest really thinking about what you are doing before you act. Knowing Jacksonville and surrounding areas very well, I wouldn’t recommend shooting the deer. I recommend attempting to use deer repellents because if you have deer and food for them, it doesn’t matter how many you shoot, more will just keep coming into the area. Whereas, if you use repellent it will hopefully keep them all away. Just something you have to keep up with.
If you do decide to shoot the deer, if you are not a hunter and do not know anyone interested in the deer. There are several local butcher shops that accept deer at no cost for the feed the hungry program, the program costs you no money and feeds hungry people so this is a win win for everyone.
Hope this info helps and please let us know if you have further questions.
