Nikon ProStaff Shotgun Hunter 2 – 7 x 32 Scope Review

Nikon ProStaff Shotgun Hunter Scope

I originally purchased the Nikon ProStaff Shotgun Hunter Scope for just what it is made for; I was going to mount it on a Mossberg 500 shotgun for shotgun season.  About two weeks after I purchased it, I found out I had lost the property that I gun hunted on.  So that fall with no hunting property, no need for a shotgun scope, so it stayed safe and sound in the box waiting on me to find a new hunting location.  Well, I never got to use it on my shotgun, because last fall, I mounted it on a crossbow.  This 2 – 7 x 32mm scope is perfect for any shotgun, but it also works very nicely on a crossbow.

The Pros:

This scope has everything you could ask for in the middle price range category for hunting scopes.  It is water and fog proof, offers a crystal clear image, and the 2 – 7 power is perfect for all your 100 yard or less shots.  As I said, I have it mounted on a crossbow and this scope is great for this use.  I can group at less than 2 inches at 50 yards with an older, inexpensive crossbow.  I have bumped and banged the scope into brush and against trees as I raised and lowered it from my tree last fall and it is still dead on.  I hunted in a snowstorm last winter and even with my breath it did not fog up.  It is probably the lowest priced scope in its class at an average selling price between $129 and $149.

The Cons:

There are not many cons to this scope, but I am sure if you compared it to high-end scopes you could find some.  I personally found the two things that could be better are that the scope came with a very cheap scope cover, and it lacks a cleaning cloth like many of the slightly more expensive scopes provide.  I know these are petty things to complain about, but these are the things I did not like, but you get what you pay for.

My Final Thoughts:

This scope is perfect for anyone looking for a great priced reliable scope for your shotgun or crossbow. It will not let you down when you need it to perform.  I think that if they provided you with a cleaning cloth and a decent dual sided bungee scope cover with your purchase, this scope would be right there with the slightly more expensive competitors. Too many people put this lower-end Nikon scope into the low-end scope category.  I think it is a great value and is right there in the mid-class performing scopes, I would recommend anyone take a look at these the next time you purchase a scope.
