Were Back! Life and Summer Update!

Well it has been an exciting but very busy year for us at Bow Hunting Maryland.  Unfortunately, I cannot say that I have a lot of hunting or fishing experiences to tell you about.  I (Andy) have been able to get out on the Chesapeake Bay only once this season which was back in June and produced only 1 bite for the whole boat and not a single fish. Granted it was an extremely rough day, but still very disappointing. I have been out on several bass fishing trips on different local lakes and had fair to decent success.  A couple of the trips the buddy that took me fishing caught some very nice bass in the 4 – 5lb range.   I am starting to gear up for the upcoming hunting season and finally got my bow out and started shooting.  I got a new feeder which I will be reviewing this fall.  And the trail cam is up and running and pictures will be coming very soon. As for a life update we have had an extremely busy spring and summer.  We have an added bundle of joy to our family as we are now parents to a precious baby girl which what has consumed most of our spring and all of summer.  As she is getting older we are getting back into the swing of normal life.  The other part of life that has added time commitment is my business has taken off and been extremely busy this past spring and into this summer which made life even more challenging.. Even with the added life challenges we both hope to continue to take part in our hobbies and share our experiences with you this fall. As always if I get any new gear I will be writing reviews and I will attempt to keep up with trail cam updates as long as I have something interesting to show you! I hope everyone had an awesome spring or summer and I hope to hear how all of our readers spent their spring and summer enjoying the outdoors! I would also love to hear how everyone is preparing for the upcoming 2016 – 2017 bow...
Opening Day Trout Season 2016

Opening Day Trout Season 2016

Opening day of trout fishing is coming this Saturday!  Being just a couple days away I am getting excited to hit the streams for the first time this year and hopefully catch some trout.  For many people this is a big deal as many people make the trek out into the woods in the predawn hours to be on the river at 5:30 AM when the river opens up.  Many of us have our favorite river, and even down to your favorite pull or “honey hole”.  It’s a great time of year, its a great activity to go enjoy time with friends and family.  This is a great activity to take youngsters out and get them involved in the outdoors.  I started trout fishing at a young age and have been hooked ever since. Just in case you have not seen it, here is the link to the 2016 trout stocking schedule: 2016 Maryland Trout Stocking Schedule I wish everyone good luck this coming weekend and the weeks beyond as more and more stocking takes place until mid May when it slows down for the summer.  I will hopefully be posting pictures of my catches and hope to see pictures of everyone else’s! Good...

Summer 2015

After a several month break from writing here at the blog, I am back to it now that we are in the dog days of summer.  Spring and early summer were pretty uneventful for me.  I have done some fishing but no where near what I would like to have done.  Trout season was pretty good to me this year, then early season bass fishing had it’s up’s and down’s had a couple days of catching some fish but no monsters to write home about this year.  Most of the bass I did catch were in the 1 –  2 lb range this year.  Otherwise, life and working have been keeping overly busy and unable to really enjoy the outdoors like I would like to.  I will keep at fishing and hopefully catch something soon that will be worth posting a picture of! 🙂 On another note, (which is also why I am starting to write again) I saw a few deer the other night and couple of them were bucks. One was a nice size deer with a pretty good size rack on him for early July.  It got me excited and thinking about deer season which will be here before we know it.  As always, I will be starting to shoot my bow here in another couple weeks, and I already set 2 trail cams over the past couple days and will hopefully be setting more when I get time. I will start sharing trail cam pictures as soon as I get some worth sharing. How is your summer going?  Done anything interesting outdoors? We would love to hear what you are doing this...

Spring 2015 What is Happening in Maryland...

Spring is finally showing signs that it is coming and that winter will not hold on forever this year.  I saw this as I am sitting here looking at the current weather which says it’s 38 degrees…..  Well, tomorrow is suppose to be almost 80 degrees with thunderstorms.  That will make ever feel like it’s more like spring. Many things that bring me to spring are happening over the next couple weeks.  First, the Orioles season started on Monday and the home opener is tomorrow! Go O’s!!!  Second, spring trout fishing is well underway and has been providing entertainment and dinner for many of us over the past two weeks.  Third, spring turkey season starts next Saturday, and that too gives us hunters a reason to hit the woods, even if it only is for a couple hours in the early morning.  Forth,  spring trophy Rockfish season also starts next Saturday, as I am sure this will leave some people torn if they should be in the woods after a turkey or on a boat on the bay looking for one of those big Rockfish. This year the weather has been funky, which may help both turkey season and spring trophy Rockfish season.  The woods are still mostly in winter mode, as very little if anything has started to sprout which means turkeys will be easier to see and possibly get a shot at when the season opens next week.  On the other side the cold temps have held water temperatures down in the bay so a lot of the big Rockfish are holding in the months of the rivers and in the upper reaches of the bay waiting on water temperatures to get a bit warmer so they can go spawn. This should give a many a good chance to catch a good size Rockfish while out trolling when the season opens.  I have talked to a couple of people that have been out doing catch and release fishing the past week and they said fishing is good..  I think fishing should be good for the first couple weeks of the season as the fish continue to move up the bay to spawn and then back down to head out into the ocean to head north for the summer.  Sadly, for those looking to see those fish at the beach, you could be waiting until early to mid May at this point before the fishing gets going on the ocean side. Lastly, of course as water temps continue to rise over the next couple weeks, freshwater fishing will continue to get better and better and offer something exciting for everyone in the family of all ages to do. This has to be one of the best times of year in terms of the most things to do, although fall comes in a close second as many of the things you can do now you can do then, plus deer hunting. Guess you are trading turkey for deer in the fall. Nevertheless, spring is a great time to be out on the water, in the woods, or just on a nature walk with family and friends to just enjoy everything nature has to offer to us.  We have even still be out shed hunting, but like this past hunting season, we have had very little luck in finding any sheds.  We did find a dead 8 point which I will post a picture of in a coming post about my...

Opening Weekend of Trout Season 2015

Well, the weather was not as kind as it could have been, but all and all opening weekend of trout season 2015 wasn’t too bad.  I was not able to get out opening day this year, but managed to get out both Sunday and Monday for a little trout fishing.  I only had a few hours, but I was able to make the best of it.  I went with a friend and few of his friends both days.  Sunday, I went out on Deer Creek and saw lots of fish but was only able to land 1 decent size rainbow.  Monday afternoon, I hit the Gunpowder and man was the water clear, half the time I could watch my bait in bounce along the bottom in the pools I was fishing.  I was able to land 2 rainbow trout, one was your average 13 inches the other was a bit nicer at 17 inches.  All and all it was an enjoyable two days of fishing and I am sure am glad fishing is back! The only complaint I had was that it was pretty chilly in the evenings and Sunday evening it got down right cold. I can only imagine how cold it was Saturday and Sunday mornings for those that got out. Anyone have success trout fishing on opening day this year? We would love to hear your stories or see...

Summer Update & Fishing

Summer time is here many people are getting out of school either this week or early next week and vacations will commence.  We are all looking forward this summer and vacations like many are as some great stress relievers! Summer time is always a busy time of year for many of us and has it has it’s up’s and downs in a sportsmen’s mind.  Fishing can either be really exciting or really slow, there is no hunting to be done, and getting ready for the upcoming season normally means sweating your butt off and bug bites.  I am just now in the process of starting to think about the upcoming hunting season which is now just a little less than 3 months away.  It’s time to think about a summer food plot and putting out mineral blocks as well.  We will also likely be getting trail cameras up and running here in the next couple weeks.  It’s all an exciting time of year, it’s also time to pull the bow and get shooting in preparing for the season. Both Amber and I are looking forward to this season, we hope this season will be a better one for me and she is looking to take her first deer this year as it didn’t work out last season.  So with high hopes and some new equipment we are really looking forward to this year. Until then, we also are like everyone else and have been trying our luck at fishing between bass fishing, trout fishing and just seeing what’s biting in the local streams in general.  From sun fish, fall fish, bass, perch, brown trout, and rainbow trout it keeps us entertained our rods bent and occasional gives us dinner. We both have been super busy which I am sure many of our readers have noticed by the lack of posts recently, we apologize, and are working to get back to at least one post per week.   We promise they will be about hunting more and more as the summer goes on. 🙂 Until then, how is everyone else spending their summer in the outdoors?  Have you been out fishing? Have you already started thinking about bow season which is now just 3 months away?  We want to hear from you!  Also would love to see some pictures of some fish or deer if anyone has some trail cameras out already! We know bucks are starting to grow antlers...
